All donations are overseen by the Highland Park Band Booster Organization.
Winterguard will practice
Tuesday 4:00pm-6:30pm
Thursday 6:45am-7:45am
Friday 4:00pm-6:30pm
Check the calendar tab for a more detailed schedule and for time changes for the first 2 weeks of practices.
Junior High students will be allowed to leave Thursday morning practices early to arrive to school on time.
All missed practices must be presented to Mr. Martinez in person. Emails are not excepted.
Unexcused absences may result in removal from the production.
Friends
You will work as a team and spend a lot of time with this group of students. Colorguard kids are very welcoming and try to help every student achieve their personal goals. Not only in colorguard, but academically as well.
Discipline
The colorguard students will learn to work hard and manage their time wisely. If you choose to participate in the 1st semester team, you will receive a fine arts credit and a PE credit.
The usual cost is about $300-$400 per season. We will make payment arrangements if needed.
Parents are expected to help feed the colorguard on competition days. The colorguard mom will coordinate meals for the colorguard. We appreciate all parental support.
The money from dues and fund raisers goes to buses, competition fees, uniforms, etc.
ABSOLUTELY, the colorguard has a strong instructional staff that will teach you everything you need to know about colorguard.
The colorguard was the 2019 NTCA Grand Champion and is one of the most successful colorguard programs in the state.
The colorguard/band was the 2019 UIL State Marching band Silver Medalist. 2021 5th place UIL Marching band Finalist
The colorguard will be provided charter buses to and from all competitions.
All performer are expected to ride the bus to and from all competitions.
No one will be dismissed until all props and equipment is properly put away at Highland Park High School.
Our instructional staff will teach you everything you need to know.
Many of our current members did not have any experience performing. Our staff is more than happy to help and our student leader are always available to give a much needed emotional boost when needed.
Colorguard members are very welcoming to our new members. You will gain new friends within hours of joining colorguard. Many of our members started out not knowing anyone in colorguard, now some of them are best friends. You will make long life friends that you also get to perform with at football games.
I don't know how to spin, dance, or perform? That's alright, we will give you all the tools you will need to be successful.
Yes, the colorguard accepts members from the junior high. You will need to arrange a ride to get to practices. The colorguard practices at Highland Park High School. We have had members from the junior high before and they became very successful members of the colorguard.
Well great news, you don't have to audition to be in colorguard. If you work hard during our practices, you will make the colorguard.
The answer is yes. Although, you are not guaranteed to perform every part of the production. Our staff makes an effort to make sure every student has an important part in our show.
During the summer, we have camps and summer band. Usually we camps the first weekend in June and the last weekend in July. August we practices with the band.
We would like you at all camps and summer band practices, but if you already have a vacation planned we will work with your schedule. You will need to inform the staff as soon as possible after joining.
Mr. Martinez is the head director for the colorguard. This will be his 9th year at Highland Park High School. Mr. Martinez has over 30 years experience in teaching and has taught some of the most successful programs in the state of Texas
Mr. Martinez is a choreographer and designer for programs across the country. He is collaborates with the Highland Park Band Staff to design the HP Marching Band Production.
Mrs. Harrison is now in her 4th year with the HP colorguard. She is a movement and performance guru. Mrs. Harrison is fantastic with beginners and she can make any student perform at their highest level.
Mrs. Harrison is a world champion. She performed with the Phantom Regiment drum corp in 2008. After winning with Phantom, she performed with Crossman and Santa Clara Vanguard. Mrs. Harrison has been taught by some of the best instructors in the world. She brings a lot of passion and knowledge to her students.
Mr. Hesson is the newest part of the Highland Park Staff. Mr. Hesson brings a wealth of performance experience with him to Highland Park. He is very kind to the younger students and can push the older students to new levels of performance.
Mr. Lum is the Highland Park Rifle instructor. He is one of the most energetic young teacher in the metroplex. Mr. Lum is very smart about his choreography and technique. His enthusiasm is infections and students are drawn to him, because of his work ethics and how excited he gets when the students show progress.
